What Moves Jesus’ Heart

English Audio Version

We love pictures of puppies.

They show up on the Internet, and we melt with warmth.

Kittens, too, as they wobble on their little feet, their tails held high in the air. They are helpless and powerless, and their faces are so cute we can hardly tear ourselves away.

They move our heart and stir a sense of love and compassion, even though we don’t know them.

We are the puppies that move Jesus’ heart. When we wake in the morning and yawn sleepily as we rise from bed, our Master sees us the way we look at those kittens, wobbling across the floor, barely able to get where we’re going.

Here’s the important thing to get from this. We are helpless and powerless in comparison to God. He doesn’t see us and think, “Oh, look at the business she runs,” or, “He’s the pastor of an influential church.” No, Jesus looks down from his throne surrounded by flashing lightning and galactic power, and he sees us as we really are.

And he is moved with love for us.

Matthew 14:14 reveals the heart of the Master.

“When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”

Grasp these three concepts:

1. Jesus saw the crowd.

2. He was moved with compassion.

3. He took the time to meet their needs.

We are that crowd. Jesus gazes at us, and his heart is moved. He desires to heal us, body, mind, relationship, and soul.

We can expect three things when we come before Jesus.

First, Jesus will notice us. We are never invisible before him.

Second, our Lord will have compassion on us. Our humanity will soften his heart toward us.

Third, the Master will meet our needs. He will provide for us in our time of hurt and desperation.

We are loved because we are the creation of God the Father. We don’t need to earn it. We just are. We don’t need to beg for it or fight for it. Jesus offers it to us without cost or limit.

Come to Jesus. His love is yours.
