Our Duty in Christ

English Audio Version

Our Christian walk is a privilege.

It starts with a gift. Salvation is a free advancement in life offered to us without string or attachment.

We ask and believe, and we become new in Jesus.

There’s more to it, though. We have a duty when we become a Christian. Our privilege is to walk with Christ, but Jesus has things he requires of us.

Even Jesus had an agenda given to him by his Father in heaven.

John 14:31 tells us the motivation that drove Jesus forward.

“But I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.”

This short verse gives us three vital words of wisdom if we want to be successful as Christians.

  • We must do as the Father commands. That means we don’t get our own way all the time. How do we know the Father’s commands? We find them in the Bible.
  • Our motivation must be to show the world that we love God. When we love someone, we speak highly of them, do things for them, and give up our comfort and aspirations so they can be elevated through our actions.
  • We must put our feet on the street. Being busy doing the Lord’s work is our best proof that the love of the Father resides in us. Witness. Testify. Feed the hungry. Provide for widows and the poor. Live as Jesus lived.

Our salvation is a gift, but our walk with Christ requires us to wear the whole armor of God.
