What’s the greatest thing that can happen to us?
Oh, that’s easy, we say. Winning the Lottery, of course. With an extra $50 million or so, life would become a peachy experience.
Some of us might say it’s to become a movie star. The glamor! The fame! The access to all the best restaurants and shops! Who wouldn’t want that?
Maybe you would prefer a private island . . . staffed by a trained and unobtrusive crew. Your every desire would be catered to, and you’d have total control.
Or is it all about love to you? A spouse, you cry. Tall, broad shoulders, and green, green eyes. You want to be charmed and fussed over, treated as a queen.
Luke 1:35 gives us the start of the most overwhelming event in all history.
“And the angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.’ ”
The Lottery doesn’t compare. Mary would give birth to the Son of God!
No movie star has gained the enduring fame of Jesus Christ.
No private island, no spouse, nothing can equate to the gift given Mary. And here’s the thing: God offers us that very same gift . . . yes, to each one of us. Jesus can live in your heart today. Just invite him in.
Salvation is for all of us. We’ll stand overwhelmed by the love and power of our almighty God.
