The Good Confection

―  Also find us at www.MyChurchNotes.com  ―

Join a cakewalk at a school fair.

The thing about a cakewalk is that everyone goes home with a sweet treat. There’s more than enough to go around. As we move from square to square, waiting for our number to be called, we can imagine the sugary confections on our tongue, and we have no doubt that our prize will be quickly consumed.

No one would start a cake fight over the choices being meted out. Everyone wins at a cakewalk.

What’s our prize for our spiritual cakewalk?

John 14:6 lays the numbered squares on the blacktop:

Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ ”

Proverbs 18:21 urges us to pay attention to where we stand:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

Romans 5:10 says we only need to join the cakewalk to take home a prize:

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

1 Timothy 6:12 wants us to hold out our hands to receive our confectionary creation:

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 reminds us that the promises of God are forever, when we call upon the Lord and join his spiritual cakewalk:

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Being a Christian is filled with tasty, mouthwatering tidbits of goodness. There’s enough for everyone. When we join with Christ in the ever after, we’ll dine on a smorgasbord of eternal delight.
