The Ultimate Reward

Own a reward card? The perks are incredible, from free airline flights to spa massages, all for free.

Or maybe our goal is a bit higher. We want to win the lottery, and not the measly $1 million one. We want the big payout, the one that makes all our hopes and dreams worth the while.

Let’s just go there. Let’s name the big one, the ultimate reward. Let’s peg the meter at the top. Ring the bell. Set off the fireworks.

Let’s make this really special.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 tells us:

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”

Whew! Wipe the grin off our faces and the sweat off our brow. This is heart-thumping special. God’s gonna call us to heaven, even after we’re dead.

There is one caveat to this ultimate reward. We must buy our lottery ticket, first. And it’s more than a lottery ticket. Much more. Note these words and mark them in bold: In Christ…

Not everyone will rise, only those who have truly been born again through the salvation message of the cross, as given by Jesus. If we’ve believed, repented of our past mistakes, and are determined to walk with Jesus as our mentor and guide, we will win the spiritual lottery, and God will call us home when the Lord descends from heaven with a shout.

That’s a reward to get excited about.

When our hand is in the hand of Christ, he will guide us to our ultimate reward.
