The One Righteous God

It’s not fun to be the low man on the totem pole (or the low woman). It’s like being on the ladder of success and never getting past the bottom rung. Each person who climbs to the top must go past you, and they step on your hands and feet each time. We want to move up, so that we can enjoy the perks, too.

We want the corner office and the high-paying job. CEO! That’s us! We want it all!

The truth is, there will always be someone bigger, better, and smarter. We can’t be the best at everything, even as we strive to be the best at something. There are those that will overshadow us in some area, no matter how hard we try to outshine our competition.

There’s one that no one can eclipse. Proverbs 30:4 gives his description:

“Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the water in a garment? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you can tell?”

These are things no man can do. Our riches, no matter how vast, won’t allow us to ascend into heaven. Our wisdom, though expansive, will not let us return after death. Scientists have yet to gather up the wind, and there’s no political power that can prevent water from going where it will.

Our answer to our question is found in the Father and his Son, Jesus. They sit in the corner office and pull down the high-paying salary. CEO! Yeah, that’s them. They are the best at everything, and they outshine all the competition.

When we want off the bottom rung of the ladder, we need to get with Jesus. He’s already at the top, and he wants us with him.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
