Formed from God’s Hands

We are what we were made to be.

That sounds confusing, but let’s spell it out.

We are…

John 3:16 tells us:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

We are alive in Christ. It’s there for everyone. If we reach out and take the Savior’s hand, he lifts us into his presence, and we become part of him. It’s called belief, confession, and forgiveness. We can all have it.

…what we were made…

1 John 1:9 shows us God’s plan:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Our salvation is a process, something God does for us. It’s not magic, something that mysteriously shows up in one person’s inbox and not in another’s. We confess, God forgives, and we are cleansed. It’s there for each of us.

…to be.

Psalm 139:13-16 reveals the depths of God’s involvement in our lives:

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

God has formed humanity in his image, from the creation of our first cells to the end of our days. He remakes us when we find salvation in him. There’s no end to his involvement in our lives. His fingerprints are in every part of who we are.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s look at one more thing.

1 John 2:27 sets our spiritual standard:

“But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”

Salvation creates a special link between us and God. When we are truly committed to him, we become of one mind, and his thoughts become our thoughts. We will want to spend time with him.

We can find God all around us, if we choose to see him. We can find God inside of us, if we choose to follow him in our prayer time, our commitments to others, and our faith in the precepts in his Word.

God made all of humanity to be like him, and salvation allows the Christian to become part of him.
