Tell the Gospel

Public speaking is one of the greatest fears of most people. StatisticBrain.com tells us that 74 percent of Americans suffer anxiety about speaking in front of a group.

How do we deal with Jesus’ instructions to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature? Three-fourths of us can’t, not without night sweats and jittery hearts.

We can take Paul’s approach. One-on-one. Easy-smeasy. Like a piece of cake, just you and me and the gospel of Christ. Read of it in 1 Corinthians 15:3.

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.”

It’s that simple. We order coffee, speak in a conversational tone, and tell of our own salvation. We say it just like it happened and relate the story of Christ, the reason he died, and how it’s all laid out in the Bible.

Need more help? Here’s how to start: “I accepted Christ when I was 4 (or 14, or 24). You should have been there. It was the best day of my life.” Then take a drink of coffee, eat a bite of cake, and see where the conversation goes.

If the person we’re with picks up the conversation, we begin to discuss Jesus and the reason he hung on the cross. If the conversation changes direction, let it go. Bring up your salvation with the next cup of coffee, and the next, and the next.

We’re telling the gospel, one person at a time, the way Jesus did. We’re showing we care to the people who need Jesus most.

When Christ is part of everything we do, he’ll come out in everything we say.
