A Christ for the Ages

Time is a malleable thing. It seems to go in only one direction, but that’s not strictly true. We can bend it, twist it, and make it turn back on itself.

Sure, it’s not scientific, but it’s very real.

Catch a whiff of our mother’s perfume.  It takes us back, and we’re there again. Or an old song, and we’re dancing like we’re twenty... because for that few minutes, we are twenty again. Old pictures do the same, as does visiting the house where we once lived, or our old school. We’ve twisted time back on itself, and those moments have become real once more.

Paul tells how Christ covers all of time, the past, the present, and the future. Read of it in 2 Corinthians 1:10.

“Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.”

This is a three-phase truth. Read it as an English teacher would.

“Who has delivered us...”

Past tense. Jesus has set up a precedent that gives him credibility that he can and will continue to deliver us.

“...and does deliver...”

Present tense. Jesus continues to perform as promised: now, today, as we sit and read this text. He does what he said he would do.

“...he will deliver us.”

Future tense. Whatever comes our way, we can know that our Savior will be there to clear the hedges, break down the walls, and open any doors that need opened. He is our Savior, yesterday, today, and forever.

The time to come to Jesus is now, and yesterday, and tomorrow. He’s a Savior for all the ages.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
