Chasing God’s Truth

Is intent all we need to get to heaven?

You know, intent, our resolve or determination to do something.

Take a Formula 1 driver. Each driver on race day intends to come in first place, a podium finish, to be showered with Champaign and receive the accolades (and the money, too!).

They have intent. However, it’s happened that Formula 1 drivers, from time to time, have taken a wrong turn on the track and lost that first-place position to another more careful driver. They intended to win, but their actions dictated their finishing position.

Acts 7:24 gives us the story of Moses at a crucial moment in his life:

“And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian.”

Moses’ intent was to deliver one of his brethren from the oppressor, and instead, he took a wrong turn, killed the Egyptian, and spent the next 40 years in the wilderness.

Is our intent to live for Christ, but wrong turns are hampering our witness? Acts 7:33 gives us the answer:

“Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

When we get close enough to God, we’ll find his truth every time.

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
