Stephen’s Defense

The world just doesn’t get it.

The salvation message of Christ goes over their heads, and they just simply ... don’t ... get ... it.

It’s been the same throughout history. The seventh chapter of Acts tells of Stephen sitting in front of the Sanhedrin. These men were the leaders of the Jewish state, God’s chosen people. They were the possessors of God’s largesse and love. Stephen lays before them his defense of his belief in Jesus as the Messiah.

And the Sanhedrin just ... didn’t ... get ... it!

Even Stephen admitted that their response wasn’t unexpected. Acts 7:25 reveals the same thing happening to Moses when he killed the Egyptian overseer who was beating a Hebrew slave.

“For [Moses] supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.”

What goes around comes around. History repeats itself. What we give is what we get. We know the Sanhedrin’s response. It’s found in Act 7:58.

“And [they] cast him out of the city, and stoned him.”

Where do we stand when faced with the truth of the cross? Do we understand the reality of sin, forgiveness, the cross, and eternal destruction? Or do we cast Christ out of our lives and stone him?

We’re on the side of Jesus, or we’re on the side of the world. Our choice is revealed in the life we choose to live.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
