Smashing the Roadblocks to God’s Riches

Money ... that’s what makes us rich, right?

Or it is time when we’ve received that diagnosis that deprives us of days we deserve with our daughter or our son.

Perhaps it a relationship with a marriage partner. We are relationship poor, and we want someone to enjoy our life with. The money’s not enough any longer.

Here’s what 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 (NIV) has to say:

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

The first two words in this passage start off with “now he.”

The question we need to answer is who is he? God, of course, the Earthshaker, the King Maker, and the Universe Creator.

We learn that the Earthshaker will supply “seed to the sower and bread for food.”

He will also “increase your store of seed.” As King Maker, he “will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” Yay! Our harvest is enlarged … wait, that doesn’t say our bank account … why doesn’t it say our bank account will be enlarged?

Are you seeing this yet? The Universe Creator’s riches are our righteousness, not our bank accounts, fancy bling, or our bonus vacation days at work.

And if God’s blessing on our lives results in a fat wallet, a big home, and a luxurious automobile, it’s not for us. Go back and check out the passage. It’s “so that you can be generous on every occasion” so “your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

So, how does your idea of riches stack up against God’s? When God’s knocks down the roadblocks in your life to his riches, you need to be ready. You’re a clearing house, not a bank vault. God sends it your way so you can move it on for his praise and glory!

When you are rich in righteousness, you have become truly rich in God.

Excerpt of the Day

If we build God a palace without filling it with our praises, we have left the foundation stones undone.
