Markerboard Love

The Oldsters of us grew up learning from chalkboards. Write on them and wipe the words away … and scatter the remains of our thoughts on our hands and clothes.

Just erasing the board didn’t eliminate the chalk, just smeared it around and packed it into the eraser. As the day grew long, the board turned from green to cloudy until the words written with chalk could barely be seen at all.

You had to regularly wash the chalkboard and clean the eraser so the next day could begin anew.

Others of us know markerboards better. Write, wipe, and the board looks brand new. From the first lesson of the day to the closing bell, the board remains clean, and the words are back-row bright.

God says we receive markerboard love from his Son when we come to Christ for salvation.

Read of it in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV):

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

That’s you, Marker Board. What sin and life and bad choices have scrawled on you, gone as though it never was! Christ steps in, swipes with his loving hand, and it’s all gone. The stain, the words, the accusations … even the guilt, vanished as if it never happened.

You are clean, shiny as though brand new.

Not even God sees that which Christ has wiped away. If we pull up something from the past and say, “God, remember how bad this was?” He gently smiles at us and says, “What? I don’t see anything there.”

When we come to Christ, we are a new creation—a freshly cleaned markerboard—and we are ready for Jesus to write his name on our life.

“Polished and Certified by the Love of Jesus”

Glory to the King of Kings who loves and treasures us.
