A Raft of Blessings

Some days we just need to feel loved.

Let’s leap fully in with Psalm 1:1-3 in the ESV:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

There’s a lot of love crammed into this passage, so let’s break it down. It helps to first know what blessed means.

Welcomed. Set apart. Approved. Or as Dictionary.com says, divinely or happily favored; fortunate to have, do, or experience something.

On to the love:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked.”

We are welcomed into the presence of God.

“Blessed is the man who stands not in the way of sinners.”

We are set apart as different, as one who lives a godly life.

“Blessed is the man who does not sit in the seat of scoffers.”

We are approved as friends and confidents to those in need.

“Blessed is the man who delights is in the law of the LORD.”

We are divinely favored when we live by God’s standards.

“Blessed is the man who meditates on his law day and night.”

We find inner happiness that’s based in God’s law, not man’s whims.

“Blessed is the man who is like a tree planted by streams of water.”

We enjoy the fortune of spiritual nourishment from the Lord above.

“Blessed is the man who yields fruit in his season.”

We do that which is good, and we reveal the face of Jesus through our actions.

“Blessed is the man whose leaf does not wither.”

We are as the evergreen, for we experience continual favor in God’s sight.

“In all that he does, he prospers.”

Prospers … succeeds in material terms; is financially successful. Flourishes physically. Grows strong and healthy.

We ARE loved by the God of all creation! Rejoice, rejoice, for our Salvation is here!
