Reigning with Christ

We live in a world of power brokers. They are the oligarchy, the privileged few who have the money and the authority to change the world for better…or for worse.

After the financial collapse of 2008, in the United States, we had the Occupy Wall Street protests against the oligarchy ruling our once-free country. Yes, oligarchy, and yes, once free.

The power in our country has become concentrated in the hands of the financial sector, and then, only in the hands of those at the very top. Four hundred people in the Unites States have as much wealth as half of the rest. Four hundred Americans have as much cash as the 160 million at the bottom.

The real question is how they use that wealth, whether to better the world, or to make it worse.

Let’s turn that back to ourselves. The Word tells us we are the oligarchy of the spiritual world. We have the spiritual power of this world concentrated in us through Christ. He’s our leader, and we rule with him.

Read of Jesus’ elevated spiritual position in Hebrews 6:20:

“Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

Top dog. Head honcho. High priest. King. Jesus is all that and more, and we’re right there with him.

Read of our elevated status in Revelation 1:6, 5:10, and 20:6:

“[Christ has] made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.”

“And you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”

“Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.”

We are the ruling elite, part of the four hundred, in training now to assume our role of leadership in the world to come. How will we use our spiritual power, for better, or for worse? It’s already ours to use in the name of the Christ who died on the cross for our sins.

How we use what we have is what elevates us to become like the Christ we adore.
