Bunches of Blessings

It’s all about the grapes. Not real grapes, of course, but the blessings that seem to come in times of unexpected bounty, tumbling over us in exceeding excess.

That’s how life is, too, a grapevine filled with blessings that come along every so often. The grapes are magnificent, but what we can’t forget is that in between we have all that grapevine, too.

Grapevine is tough. It’s wiry, thick, and can trip us up. It’s also not very pretty. Yet, when the grapes come along, who cares about the vine! We’re enjoying the flavorful fruit, and that makes the trouble along the way worth it.

We must handle our bunches of blessings carefully so that their enjoyment lasts us through the tough times.

Solomon 2:15 tells us:

“Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”

It’s the little sins that can spoil the spirit of our special blessings. Dishonesty. Deception. Deceit. When we strip them from our lives, our grapes can mature to full ripeness.

We must also be ready to share our blessings with others.

Leviticus 19:9 tells us:

“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest.”

The Lord desires us to leave a little for the struggling Christian. Share our blessings with the unchurched. Try not to consume it all ourselves.

John 15:1 points to Christ as the source of every blessing that comes to us.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.”

When we turn to him, he will clear away everything from our life that keeps us from the bunches of blessings that he’s preparing for us all along life’s journey.

It’s not the vine that makes life wonderful. It’s the grapes we enjoy along the journey that show Christ’s love to his faithful.
