Our Ever-Increasing Glory

It’s the downcast head that tells us of someone’s depression. They stumble along, unwilling to look ahead, barely finding where to place each footstep.

It’s also how we walk when the storm clouds cover the sky, and rain beats down on our heads. It gives our face a measure of protection against the pounding torrent.

We need to lift our heads. Our time of depression is gone. The storm clouds are breaking. The sunshine of God’s presence even now shines upon us.

Revelation 19:7-9 tells us:

“ ‘Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure’— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true words of God.’”

We are all invited to the marriage supper of the lamb. God’s Word tells us so. That wonder is like the breaking sun coming through the darkened clouds. Because of the clouds, the light is more brilliant than we’ve ever seen it before. We want to lift our heads to bask in its glory.

1 John 5:19 reiterates the contrast between the brilliance of the presence of the Lord and the downcast condition of the world:

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”

It’s time to get our eyes off the world, where there’s only darkness and depression. When we look up is when God’s glory will flood over us.

We receive our instructions for living in the glory of Christ in 1 Peter 3:10:

“Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.”

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). We are shown the truth of the spirit (1 Corinthians 2:13). We will one day be caught up to be with him (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

Who wouldn’t want to follow after the Christ? He’s our doorway to living a life of ever-increasing glory, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let’s jump in with both feet and get ourselves covered with him.

There’s no glory like that which flows from Christ above.
