Rising the Seventh Time

English Audio Version

A good economy means the money flows like honey, sweetening the lives of everyone who dips in their finger.

Just to be near the golden river is enough to nourish our dreams, and we can grow our success like a willow rooted by a fast-flowing stream.

Everyone is the master of their pocketbook when there’s plenty of money. But what happens when the resources dry up, and the easy money is harder to find?

What do we do when calamity overshadows us, and disaster threatens to spoil our well-ordered life?

Proverbs 24:16 gives us encouragement:

“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”

Why do the righteous rise again and the wicked stumble? It comes down to the core of who we are. The righteous depend on God and the principles of right living established in the Bible. The wicked go for quick rewards using devious methods that are unsustainable during times of stress.

Especially note the dynamic promise this verse in Proverbs stresses: The righteous don’t just rise again, they rise seven times.

What does that mean for us? When life crushes us, we aren’t required to give up. Even more, we mustn’t give up. We cast off the blows of the evil one and straighten our back, then the next time, we do the same. How? By right living, trusting in our Holy God, and maintaining faith in our Lord’s promise to always be at our side.

We can rise from every devastation when we trust Jesus to be our guiding hand.
