Brave in Heart

English Audio Version

Superheroes live bigger than life.

They accomplish feats of heroism the rest of us can only imagine, fighting the bad guys to do good for others.

Yet, even superheroes face daunting challenges. Evil foes, self-doubt, or a past that has crushed them and vaulted them into their life of good often haunt them. Batman’s family was killed. Daredevil, blind. Superman lived on a foreign world, the last of his race. Even Dr. Who of British fame, who wrestled with the trauma of having imprisoned his own people for the good of the rest of the galaxy, struggled with the guilt of his act.

How can we be brave when superheroes can barely unearth the strength to save the world?

All we must do is show a little courage. That’s right, like the lion in The Wizard of Oz. A little courage gets us started, and good things happen from there.

Deuteronomy 31:6 tells us:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

We are superhero material. We can be brave in intent, heart, and deed. We make the first step, and the Lord our God rolls in like a storm, supporting us all the way.

Defeat isn’t a possibility when we have God on our side.
