Panic surrounds us.
What will the stock market do? Is it up, or is it down?
Our roof! There’s a storm coming!
And food prices . . . milk just went up again!
Never mind that our car is on the blink, our kids need new shoes, and our savings is just about depleted.
We need to find a way to shift the stress off to someone else. We need a break so that we have time to come up for air.
Matthew 6:25 says we can look at things differently.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
How many of our worries have we brought on ourselves? Did we really need a larger house? The store brand of milk will do just fine. And that pesky stock market, it’s all numbers on paper, isn’t it? We haven’t lost anything until we sell our shares.
Life is about fresh air, good health, and people we care about. The rest is all gravy. We can let go of what doesn’t matter and take the time to treasure what does.
Walk away. Find a simpler life. Quit trying to measure up to someone else’s standards. God’s ruler is all that matters. He offers us life, and more abundantly, at that.
When we find our value in Christ, the worries of life will fade into the background where they belonged all along.
