Faith is a great thing to have.
Before the financial crash of 2008, many people had faith in their financial advisors at Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers.
Then the bottom fell out, and money skittered away like candy from a piñata.
Too much faith without the knowledge to back it up can be a recipe for disaster. Our unsupported faith can lead us down a dark road from which it’s difficult to recover.
Proverbs 18:15 reiterates this twice in one verse.
“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”
Do we want our intelligence to shine? It’s vital we research out the knowledge of Christ. We must spend time in the Word to learn the truths of God so that we know the precepts upon which our faith is based.
Do we want to appear wise? The truth of our wisdom comes from our understanding of God. Only in searching for the knowledge of our Father through the Word of God can we truly understand his person and his actions.
When we want to invest our money, we must have a little faith in our investment firm. However, if we don’t follow up with aggressive research into how our money is invested, we risk losing everything.
Our faith in Christ is the same. Without knowledge, we can be led away from our Lord just as easily as unto him. We become intelligent and wise by finding the truth through study and knowledge.
We must be filled with the knowledge of Christ, which comes through the study of his Word.
