Our Brave Face

English Audio Version

Courage isn’t the absence of fear.

Rather, it’s taking account of the total situation, evaluating our chance of success, and stepping out despite the odds others see as foolhardy.

We run into the chaos because the good we can do is greater than the danger we face.

What do we do when our fear overwhelms our courage? What about those times we want to do what’s right, and we shiver in our beds, paralyzed with waves of doubt crashing over us?

We put on our brave face and give it a shot. We trust in the Lord to be our strength and our salvation.

Psalm 27:1 gives us our strong anchor:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Prominent author Frank Herbert once wrote: “Fear is the mind-killer.” He went on to say fear brings death and total obliteration.

We can’t let our fear keep us from doing the good works of the Lord. If we do, we will become dead in Christ. Our brave face comes from God, and it encourages life and power to bloom in us. Our strength flows from the Father’s right hand. He is our stronghold that drives out all fear.

Courage comes from God when we set our fear behind us and place our trust in him.
