In the earliest chapters of the Bible, we read of the creation of the Earth. For six days, God wrought his creative genius, and on the seventh day he rested.
After six stages of creation, the work was finished, and it met his approval. The earth and all its inhabitants were complete.
As Christians, we are also in the stages of completion.
Ephesians 6:8 tells us we are saved through our faith in God. Romans 5:1-2 says we are justified through faith. John 3:16 shouts to the world: If we have faith in him we shall receive eternal life.
Without faith, no man can be saved from the destruction of sin, and without faith, no man can find redemption in Christ our Redeemer.
If we wish to find a full measure of faith in our Lord, we can follow in the steps of six great men and women who exercised a full measure of faith in God.
Hebrews 11:4 shows us Godly faith at a basic level:
“By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts.”
Hebrews 11:5 reveals a deeper layer of faith:
“By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.”
Hebrews 11:8 tells us about stepping out on the promises of God:
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:11 is proof that a woman can grasp the horns of faith:
“By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.”
Hebrews 11:23 tells of faith held fast in the service of another:
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.”
Hebrews 11:31 encourages us to support the work of Christ:
“By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.”
When our six measures of faith are fulfilled in us, we will rest, also, for we will reside in the eternal arms of Christ.
The realization of our Christian faith comes through Christ, and only in him are we complete.
