Watch a military exercise at basic training.
The recruits seem to move as one, from this spot to that, from here to there.
If anyone gets behind, heaven help them. They’ll have a drill instructor behind them yelling to pick up the pace.
You can’t afford to fall behind when you’re training for the battlefield.
Our Christian walk is a battlefield. We are at war with evil and the devil. The world’s temptations will try to take us down, and we must keep up with God or risk exposing ourselves to a dire situation.
1 Corinthians 16:13 tells us:
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”
Paul’s words are brief and to the point, emphasizing four important points in this verse.
Point No. 1:
We must be hyper-vigilant. The enemy will sneak up when we least expect.
Point No. 2:
We must study the Bible so we know what it teaches. We can’t go off track.
Point No. 3:
We must live up to God’s standard, exhibit exceptional fortitude, and refuse to back down.
Point No. 4:
We must exercise our faith in little things so the big ones don’t overwhelm us.
It’s time to pick up our pace. We have a battle to fight, and we can’t do it alone.
Christ leads us in the fight, and we’re protected when we march at his side.
