3 People Who Made a Difference for God

English Audio Version

Doing the right thing is a tricky business.

Everyone has their own opinion, and we’re asked to consider every viewpoint.

At some point we must draw a line in the sand and say, “Enough! Today’s the day I make a difference.”

Let’s look at 3 People Who Made a Difference for God in the Bible.

Our first person who made a difference for God was Gideon.

No one expected Gideon to take on the mantle of hero. His clan was of little importance. Gideon doubted his own ability.

Gideon started out as a nobody who had to be prompted into action by an angel of God.

Judges 6:12 tells us:

“When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’ ”

Gideon made a difference by sending home the greatest part of his army and defeating one of Israel’s major enemies, the Midianites, using guerilla warfare and a small, core band of spiritual brothers.

The second person who made a difference for God was Samson.

We hear the stories of Samson’s fall from grace, but Samson’s potential for size and strength was heralded by an angel of God.

This biblical hero was no peaceful negotiator. He wasn’t a “gentle giant” who used his size to sway others to his cause.

Samson was a loner and vanquished every enemy by his God-given strength.

Samson regained God’s favor after his fall, and in the final moments of his life, God granted him the opportunity to kill more of Israel’s enemies than he had in every battle before.

Judges 16:30 says:

“Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.”

Samson made a difference by repenting of his wrongdoing and turning once again to God.

Finally, let’s look at Moses, the reluctant leader, our third person who made a difference for God.

Moses is the only man on record who spoke to God face to face.

Moses never sought fame. Rather, he avoided it, once running away to spend forty years herding sheep in the desert. God called on Moses to lead his people despite Moses’ reticence.

Exodus 3:5 is Moses’ call to holiness:

“ ‘Do not come any closer,’ God said. ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’ ”

Moses made a difference by taking on the mantle of responsibility when God called to him from the burning bush.

What has God called you to do? What’s the difference you can make in your world? Now’s your time. Now’s your opportunity.

God says to take his hand. He’s ready to use you today.
