3 Times Habakkuk Earned Our Respect

English Audio Version

Habakkuk is relatively obscure to modern Christians.

An Old Testament prophet, we’re not even sure where his name originates, possibly translating as “embrace” or “garden plant.”

One thing is certain. Habakkuk deserves his name. He embraced his love for God and encouraged the people of Israel to grow in their relationship with the Father.

Here are 3 Times Habakkuk Earned Our Respect:

The 1st Time:

Habakkuk didn’t mind standing up to God when he disagreed with God’s responses.

Habakkuk 1:2 reveals the fiery nature of the prophet.

“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save [us]?”

The 2nd Time:

Habakkuk called things as he saw them.

Habakkuk 1:8 illustrates the fearless clarity in his vision of Israel’s enemies.

“Their horses are swifter than leopards, more fierce than the evening wolves; their horsemen press proudly on. Their horsemen come from afar; they fly like an eagle swift to devour.”

The 3rd Time:

Habakkuk was rooted in his trust in the Lord.

Habakkuk 1:5 proclaims his awe for the power of the King of Kings.

“Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For [the Lord is] doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.”

Open your Bible to Habakkuk from time to time. Soak up the words of the prophet. Get a feel for his connection with God.

Habakkuk walked in communion with the Creator. If we follow his example, we will, too.
