The phrase “getting your groove on” comes from the days of vinyl records.
The sound reproduces in the grooves that circle the vinyl disk. That’s where the music originates. We slip in the needle, the grooves vibrate the sapphire stylus, and music booms out of the speakers.
When we are “in the groove,” we are in rhythm with the music.
We are grooving, man, getting down with the song.
We can sing or dance to the music and never miss a beat.
That’s how we should be with God, in the groove, never missing a beat.
Here are 5 Ways to Get Your Groove On with God.
Groove No. 1:
Acts 10:43 says you can trust him to wipe away your sins.
“To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Groove No. 2:
Romans 6:6-7 says to look at your old ways as dead to you and cut them loose.
“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.”
Groove No. 3:
2 Corinthians 5:17 says you are to walk away from even the appearance of wrongdoing.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Groove No. 4:
Romans 6:1-2 says to pay attention when God convicts you of something you used to do before you gave your life to Christ.
“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?”
Groove No. 5:
Romans 6:14 says to give up the legalism of the law and trust in the grace found in the redemption of Christ.
“For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”
There’s only one thing left to say. Groovy, man. We’ve got the groove on. We’re in rhythm with Jesus, and we’re gonna rock all the way to the throne.
Jesus provides us the melody, and he wants us to sing along.
