Horses get them.
We call them blinders, devices to block out what we don’t want our horse to see.
We use them in cars, visors, to block out the sun so we don’t crash into things.
How about on our computers? We call it a firewall, digital protection to keep out hackers and viruses.
How do we shield ourselves from temptation as Christians? Where’s our protection there?
Matthew 5:27-28 gives us an important guard for our souls.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
This verse talks about women and sexual sin, but our lesson is much wider.
If we keep a dollar we haven’t earned, we’re tempted to want even more.
If we sleep in for Sunday school, next time we might also forego the morning service.
If we have one drink, we might down the entire bottle.
One cigarette … one off-color joke … one trip to the gambling parlor.
If we even look … yes, that about sums it up. God wants purity from us. We must wear our sin shades and not look at all.
We’re headed toward heaven. We can’t afford to get distracted along the way.
