The Jesus Job Description

English Audio Version

When we apply for a job, it’s helpful to know what’s expected of us.

It’s called our Job Description.

It’s what we will be doing if we’re hired. Maybe we don’t want to keep the coffee pot filled. If it’s in our job description, we’d better be prepared to fill the coffee pot if we choose to accept the job.

The hardest jobs are those with no job description. We can be asked to do anything, and if we’re on our own, we must create our own schedule, whatever that may be.

Who knows if we’re even following company policy? Things become a mess and deteriorate from there.

What job description do we have as Christians? What’s our role for Christ? Where do we fit in the Master’s plans for establishing the work of Jesus on this earth?

Perhaps Jesus’ job description will help us understand.

Matthew 1:21 puts salvation in his job description.

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Acts 13:38 says he was required to spread the message of forgiveness.

“Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”

Galatians 1:4 tells us he will deliver us from the bad things surrounding us.

“Who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”

1 John 2:1-2 touts him as an Atlas, bearing our sins to the throne of the Father in Heaven.

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Which of these job descriptions are we expected to take on?

The Word says we are to be like Christ in Ephesian 5:1-2. How can we be like him if we don’t assume his responsibilities from his time on the earth?

Our job is to be like Jesus in every way, fashion, and form.
