4 Proverbs to Improve Your Standing with God

English Audio Version

It’s the Santa Claus thing.

“You better be good, you better not cry. You better not pout, I’m telling you why …”

We want on Santa’s good side so we can get the best presents.

See, Santa brings everyone gifts, but we only get the good ones if we’re on our most excellent, Santa-inspired behavior. No one wants a lump of coal in their stocking when Christmas morning rolls around.

So, how do we get on God’s good side? What does being good mean to God? How do we “buck up” our attitude? What does God want?

Here are 4 Proverbs to Improve Your Standing with God.

Our 1st Proverb:

Proverbs 22:4 tells us that to put God’s plans before ours and to accept his authority without question returns the blessing of a good life.

“The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.”

Our 2nd Proverb:

Proverbs 3:34 says give our fellow travelers the benefit of the doubt. Don’t criticize their behaviors when we don’t know their situations.

“Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.”

Our 3rd Proverb:

Proverbs 15:33 requires us to show respect for God’s position of power. We are wise when we give all credit and honor unto God.

“The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.”

Our 4th Proverb:

Proverbs 29:23 insists we kick pride and arrogance out the window. Honor will find us as a reward for our humility.

“One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.”

Our Christmas song tells us exactly what Santa requires from us. The Bible lays out God’s expectations equally clearly. When we follow God’s rules, he lifts us up to dwell with him.

God’s agenda is the only one that brings good results.
