2 Reasons to Follow God’s Instructions

English Audio Version

A garden center is a wonderful place to visit.

Every plant is one we can try. Our yard will explode with color if we choose this or that or maybe the one over there.

All we need is our bank card, and they can all be ours.

Here’s the conundrum. Not every plant will survive in our yard. We must study the planting directions to know the soil, light, and water requirements for each plant.

Ignore those, and your plantings will look great for a time, but your beautiful yard will begin to fade. Did the ground need to be constantly moist, or was it supposed to be well-drained and occasionally allowed to dry?

Is fertilizer required year-round or just in the fall?

Some plants like the longleaf pine can be damaged by applying fertilizer or water at any time of the year. Plant it and leave it alone. Fertilizer will force the tree to leaf out rather than drive its roots into the ground. The roots won’t grow deep enough to balance the upper structure, and the tree will come down when the storms begin to blow.

What does God require from us for our spiritual growth?

Deuteronomy 6:18 tells us:

“And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers.”

Here are our 2 Reasons to Follow God’s Instructions.

First, things will go well with us.

When we follow God’s instructions, our job opportunities will line up, our family relationships will improve, and we will find God has cleared the path he wishes for us to follow.

Second, we will take possession of the land God has for us.

Following God’s instructions brings the fulfillment of the promises of God. That promotion, that prime piece of property for our new  church auditorium, that opportunity to minister on the mission field … God goes before us and leads us into success.

If we want a beautiful garden, we need to select the right plants and tend them carefully.

If we want a beautiful life, we need to select God and follow his instructions.

Our future is beautiful when we are planted in God.
