The Importance of the Word

English Audio Version

We have access to a multitude of teachings about God.

We can tune in to spiritual guides on our television and enjoy their teachings 24 hours a day.

We can soak it in.

If we grow weary of our television, the Internet is jam-packed with revelations God has shown to wise men and women of faith. There is no verse in the Word that is left in the darkness. Everything within the book is revealed.

Yet, here’s the problem. How can we find time for the Word when we’re knee-deep in what others are teaching about the Word?

That said, is reading the Bible important in our modern day and age? Our great spiritual teachers reference the Word, so we’re getting it there. That’s enough … isn’t it?

Let’s see what Colossians 1:6 says.

“[The gospel] which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.”

The truth of God spreads across the world through the gospel. It finds its way into people’s hearts through the Word of God.

We cannot discount the Bible. Our study time in the Book is vital to our relationship with the Heavenly Father.

The true nature of God is found in all the words in the Bible, not just in the warm and fuzzy nuggets presented on the Internet.

It’s up to us to learn what the Word teaches, to understand the mysteries of what’s not taught, and uncover the truth and reality of the grace of God.

That’s where our salvation lies. We gain it through our understanding of God’s Word. We grasp understanding by study and time in prayer, so that we can become more like our Lord.

Christ is our example, and we learn of him between the covers of the Bible.
