Traveling by the seat of our pants is a foolhardy venture.
Every corner, every intersection, every opportunity to veer to one side or the other is a fresh misdirection waiting to happen.
Our rescue comes in following the highway signs along the way.
We look for street names, highway designations, even directions to the airport or a favorite restaurant. Each time we’re reassured we are on the right track.
Let’s look at 8 road signs God has placed in his Word.
One Way.
Isaiah 30:21 says we will find our way when we listen to God’s voice.
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
No U Turn.
Psalm 48:14 says no other road will carry us home.
“… This is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.”
Pedestrian Crossing.
Proverbs 16:9 says we can step out only with God’s help.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
Men at Work.
Psalm 37:23 says to stay alert. Our fellow Christians are our priority.
“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way;”
Speed Limit 5.
Isaiah 28:26 says we need to pay attention to God’s teachable moments.
“For he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him.”
Falling Rocks.
Proverbs 11:5 says our choices will help us avoid danger.
“The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.”
Keep Right.
Proverbs 3:6 says there is a right way to live in the eyes of God.
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Deer Crossing.
Isaiah 42:16 says there are unexpected obstacles we can’t predict.
“And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.”
Whether we use a map, turn on our GPS, or simply look for the signs at the side of the road, we will get there safer when we pay attention.
The same is true of our Christian walk. When we follow God’s road signs, our success in him is assured.
When God says now, it’s our time to move forward.
