3 Calls for Honesty

English Audio Version

Sports are a good venue for learning about living a good life.

You may be thinking of the lessons of fair play and good sportsmanship, and there’s no question sports can teach those. They are good life skills, among the very best.

What about the referees and umpires? The coaches and team captains?

What about the plays they call, the instructions for helping their team be a success?

How often do you think a team will win if they ignore their instructions and decide to go it on their own?

Here are 3 Calls for Honesty that God gives us from Proverbs.

Proverbs 11:1 tells us we must be fair in our dealings in business.

“False balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.”

Proverbs 3:27 says to pay what we owe as soon as the money is available.

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.”

Proverbs 16:8 states the shame of living by hook or crook to get by.

“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.”

We are on a team. Everyone of us. We must play together. What we do affects everyone else. Spouse. Children. Coworkers. Church family.

Let’s play well. Let’s play fairly. Let’s play by God’s rules, and he calls on us to play honestly.

We can walk with pride when we walk in the truth of the Word.
