What gets you up in the morning?
What’s your motivation for putting your feet on the floor and heading out the door?
It’s obvious for some of us. We have children, pets, or a job. We don’t have the option of lying in bed while the neighbors run their snowblowers, lawnmowers, or pool cleaning pumps.
There’s washing in the laundry room, and we’ll never get dinner done if we don’t get to the store to stock up on essentials.
Then what about the people who get out of bed because they look forward to what the day might bring?
What’s our motivation for church? Do we look forward to what’s on the schedule for our Sunday morning service?
Do we show up because we must, or is it a choice we make because we enjoy it?
Romans 8:11 says:
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
We usually reference this verse to illustrate the resurrection of the dead, especially at the second coming of Christ. Yet, this is exactly what should happen to us spiritually on each new morning when we open our eyes.
The Spirit—yes, the one that raised Jesus from the dead—empowers us with new life by indwelling in us.
We move into each day supercharged with power from on high! That should make you want to jump and shout!
When you arrive at church next Sunday, get out of the car and shout out a praise unto the Lord. He is your redeemer, your source of new life, and in him, you will one day be raised again!
Our strength flows from Jesus, and his power should burst from us in praise.
