The Good of Christmas

English Audio Version

What’s good about Christmas?

Everything, you say. It’s all perfect, wonderful, and joyous.

  • Setting up the tree! How fun!
  • Cooking for a month! Exciting!
  • Midnight gift-wrapping sessions! Joy!
  • Clearing the after-Christmas debris! Oh, boy!
  • Paying the bills! Yea!

Once again, what’s good about Christmas?

Psalm 117 says lots.

“Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!”

John 1:9-10 tells us we have received the true light.

“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.”

Galatians 4:4-5 says we have access to God’s Son.

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

Isaiah 9:6 is our gift of an honored companion.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Acts 5:31 guarantees us forgiveness of sin.

“God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”

You were right. Everything is good about Christmas. Here’s our new list:

  • God’s steadfast Love
  • The Light of Truth
  • The Gift of God’s Son
  • A Companion greater than all companions
  • New Life in the Father through Jesus his Son

To understand Christmas from God’s perspective, we are loved, we are loved, we are loved.

When we rejoice in Christmas, let’s keep Jesus at the center of the holiday.

Excerpt of the Day

The more time we spend in the Word and in prayer, the more flavorful we will be to the needy around us.
