The Joy of Christmas Day

English Audio Version

We have a holiday song we sometimes sing. It starts like this:

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful …

Those words translate to more than cold and snow and the warmth of a fire. Certainly, we’re singing about those quantifiable things, but the essence we pull from them is so much more.

It’s family, companionship, and feeling like we’re a part of something greater than we are.

Here’s a greeting card benediction that warms the heart:

“May your heart be lifted in praise this Christmas for the wonderful gift of Jesus and the joy He brings to our lives. Have a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year!”

That’s today. Christmas. Our praise is lifted for Jesus. Certainly, we enjoy the smiles on our children’s faces and the excited rush of opening presents to discover what’s inside, but the core thread tying it together is the birth of the Savior.

Let’s not forget Luke 2:16:

“And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.”

Without that first gift from God, that of Jesus in a manger, we wouldn’t have all the rest.

W.J. Cameron, journalist and often-quoted author, said:

“There has been only one Christmas – the rest are anniversaries.”

If you showed up for your parent’s anniversary party, ate cake, enjoyed the dancing, and even exchanged presents with your siblings yet never acknowledged your parents in the same room … well … we’d just never do that. Never. Not in a million years.

Christmas is about Jesus. Let’s join in the festivities and not forget that Jesus is in the room. The party is all about him.

Jesus is THE REASON for the SEASON. Merry Christmas!

Excerpt of the Day

It's the grace that comes out of our troubles that helps others find Jesus in us.
