We can improve our memories with verses of song.
It’s in our vocal muscle memory. We can hear a fragment of a song from decades before, and we can sing it, even though we’d forgotten we knew it.
Singing praises to God triggers our love for him in the same way. Once we start, the rest falls into place, and we release depths of emotion we didn’t expect.
Psalm 145:3-4 gives us 5 Songs of the Lord.
“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”
We can come before him with praise, and we will become joyful in the household of our mighty God.
Our first song of the Lord tells the world of his greatness. The Lord’s majesty extends throughout the heavens, for he resides in their embrace.
Our second song of the Lord comes from our heart, for he deserves our praise. His glory is synonymous with his creation, and in him, the world is glorified.
Our third song of the Lord flows from his unsearchable mystery. Man cannot conceive the depths of the creator. The Father’s touch brings life, and in him, we are daily renewed.
Our fourth song of the Lord shares his goodness to all we meet. Our children, our coworkers, the people on the bus, and the waitress at the restaurant. We are secure in God’s bounty.
The fifth and final song of praise records the deeds of God in the annals of history. We inscribe his name in stone, and we hold Jesus as the standard for others to emulate.
And if our tears fall as we lift our songs of praise? That’s our love for God coming through. It’s as it should be, as natural as breathing, that we should adore our creator in song.
Praise the Lord with a thousand voices, all who enter here.
