Our MAGNIFICENT God

There are people who plan their vacations each year around the advent of the annual fall foliage bloom. It is the culmination of the summer growing season, and it is generally regarded as one of the most MAGNIFICENT events of the entire year.

People come from miles around just to catch a glimpse of trees adorned in all the glorious colors that God can drape them with.

That is just like our God, for he carries in his person the MAGNIFICENCE of all creation, and when we come to him, we will be amazed at how wonderful he really is.

Words will not be able to describe just how MAGNIFICENT his colors are to us.

Let’s take a look at our MAGNIFICENT God:

M – He has MADE man’s mouth.

Exodus 4:11 is God’s reply to Moses’ excuses when he is instructed to speak before Pharaoh. “Who has MADE man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?”

A – He ANOINTS his chosen ones.

1 Samuel 16:3 tells us God’s response to Samuel, when the prophet was frightened to ANOINT David as king for fear of Saul’s wrath. “And you shall ANOINT for me him whom I declare to you.”

G – He GIRDS us with his strength.

Psalm 18:39 lifts us above those who would defeat us, for “You GIRD (equip) me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.”

N – He NAMES us who we are, not who we were.

Genesis 32:28 speaks of God naming us and claiming our future. At the same time, he lets our past slip away from us as if it never was. “Then he said, ‘Your NAME shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.’ ”

I – He gives us INCREASE that we may celebrate him.

Deuteronomy 16:15 makes clear the reason the Lord blesses us. “The Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.” He wants us to find our pleasure in him and the INCREASE he gives to us.

F – He FULFILLS all that has been written in the Scriptures.

Matthew 8:17 speaks to the glory of the Son as given by the Father. “This was to FULFILL what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.’ ”

I – He provides us an INHERITANCE in him.

Ephesians 1:11 reveals the true scope of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, for “in him we have obtained an INHERITANCE, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.”

C – He brings us CHEER in our times of distress.

Matthew 14:27 shows Jesus’ level of concern for his disciples’ fear in the storm. He calls to them, “Be filled with CHEER (take heart); it is I. Do not be afraid.”

E – He ENCAMPS all around us.

Zechariah 9:8 assures us we need have no fear, for the Lord says, “I will ENCAMP at my house as a guard, so that none shall march to and fro; no oppressor shall again march over them, for now I see with my own eyes.”

N – He NEVERTHELESS remembers all his promises unto us.

We may fail God, but he will never fail us. Even when we let him down, Ezekiel 16:60 assures us, “Yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.”

T – He recalls a TOKEN of our devotion through the generations.

2 Timothy 1:5 speaks of three generations of godly saints, raising them up as a TOKEN before all mankind, as Paul speaks of “a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”

There is no just way to describe the magnificence of God and all that he does for us, but if we sit in our easy chairs and refuse to leave the safety of our “nest,” we will never know how grand it can be. Let’s get out there so that God’s magnificence can speak to our hearts each and every day.

People will come from far and near to glimpse God’s greatness in us, if we simply let him shine through.

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
