It is in the changing of the seasons that our lives leap forward in mighty strides. One of the most distinctive seasonal changes comes in the fall when the trees drop their leaves, signaling that winter is on the way.
Long before then, however, we have harvested our crops, and our warehouses are filled to the brim. We cannot contain all that we have been given. We gather together and FEAST on the excess, calling together our friends and family to come join in.
That is what God enjoys doing, also. He calls us to FEAST on his bounty. Anyone who comes is welcome at his table.
Let’s take a look at our FEAST God:
F – He desires us to FEAST in his presence.
Exodus 23:14 tells us, “Three times in the year you shall keep a FEAST to me.”
These are listed as the Feast of Unleavened Bread, that no man may go without food; the Feast of Harvest, celebrating the firstfruits of what we sow; and the Feast of Ingathering, to celebrate the final fruits of our labor.
E – When we EAT, we must give glory to him.
1 Corinthians 10:31 says whether we EAT or drink, or whatever we do, it should be to the glory of God.
The implication here is that God will provide us with sustenance, and he wishes us to rejoice in him when we make merry in his name.
A – He gives us his ABUNDANCE for our pleasure.
Job 36:31 speaks to the glory of the Lord, for in his power and majesty, he supplies us food in ABUNDANCE.
There is no end to the feasting when we are gathered at the Lord’s table.
S – He gives us the SEED on the trees.
Genesis 1:29-30 tells us every SEED-bearing tree is given to us for our consumption.
From apple pie to blueberry muffins, our treats come directly from the eternal and glorious hand of the Almighty Father.
T – All THINGS are created by him, and they are his to give away.
Revelation 4:11 cries into the darkness, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all THINGS, and by your will they existed and were created.”
When God calls us to his feast, we can rest assured. We will find no lack, for his tables will groan with the excess of his bounty.
When we gather at the table to enjoy the abundance the Lord has blessed us with, let’s not forget where our excess comes from. It is from the hand of God Almighty, and he deserves our daily praise.
Our bounty comes from one source, and that is God above.
