Our BRIGHT God

The lengthening days of spring are a sure sign that summer is on the way. Kids crowd the streets on their bicycles, boats come out of garages, and hedges are clipped to a tee.

Our brains crave sunlight. Without it, we sink into a melancholy state, and we are good for no one.

However, whatever the season, we have a BRIGHT light that shines upon us at all times. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Let’s look at our BRIGHT God:

B – He shines forth with the BRIGHT light of hope.

In John’s vision in Revelation 22, John is shown the magnificence of heaven, from the throne of God to the tree of life. In Verse 16, Jesus stands before him and proclaims, “I am the Root and Offspring of David, the BRIGHT and Morning Star.”

In that day there shall be no night, for the Lord God himself shall be the light that shines forever and ever.

R – His RAIMENT shines with holy radiance.

Jesus took Peter, John, and James to the mountain to pray. We read in Luke 9:29 that as he prayed, his appearance altered, and his RAIMENT glistened with heavenly light.

In the presence of his Father, even Jesus’ lowly, homespun clothing became something of beauty.

I – He transforms us into his IMAGE.

In 2 Corinthians 3:14-18, we learn that we have been as blind men. However, as in a shining mirror, we see our IMAGE becoming more and more like that of Christ each and every day.

It is the brilliance of his holiness that others see in us.

G – His GLORY reveals his godhood to us.

The people gathered before the tabernacle of meeting, and in Leviticus 9:6, Moses tells them that when they obey the commandment of the Lord, his GLORY will shine forth over them.

God treasures obedience more than sacrifice, and when we let him lead us, he shows us he is pleased with our actions.

H – His HANDIWORK shines down from the stars in the sky.

In Psalm 19:1, David tells us how the glory of God is found in the heavens, for the stars above are an example of his HANDIWORK.

When we doubt the incredible majesty of God, just step outside at night, and his awesome power shines down on us from a hundred billion points of light.

T – God lights his TABERNACLE with the fire of his presence.

After leaving Egypt, the children of Israel came to the edge of the desert. Exodus 13:21 describes how the Lord went ahead of the people, lighting the TABERNACLE as a pillar of fire in the night.

When our darkest day comes upon us, God is the everlasting light that shows us where to place our next footstep.

There is no darkness when we walk with God, for he shines with the light of his eternal glory.
