Spring is time to be outdoors. The sun is bright, the cold is burned away, and we burst from winter’s den, filled with joy.
It’s the billowing breezes of the shifting seasons that make the change. Summer wrestles with winter, and in that confrontation, we are given spring.
Flying a kite lifts us emotionally and spiritually. To see that bundle of sticks and plastic jumping and dancing in the breeze, pulled by the hand of God into the sky, gives us a thrill.
God does that for us, lifting us above the problems of the world, and we jump and dance in our joy before our God and King.
Let’s have a look at our KITE God:
K – He holds the KEYS of all creation in the palm of his hand.
Matthew 16:19 falls in the midst of Jesus’ words to Peter. In his encouragement to the man who would one day be called the Rock of the Church, Jesus offers him the KEYS to the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus controls nature, the winds, and all that live upon the earth. He is far and able to lift us out of harm’s way.
I – He is our INTERCESSOR, and in him we are reborn.
Romans 8:34 reveals the true nature of God. Christ died for us, our INTERCESSOR before the Father. We do not have to come before him alone.
Just as the wind lifts our kite towards heaven, so Jesus lifts our souls unto the Father.
T – He is the THRESHINGFLOOR upon which we offer our praises.
2 Samuel 24:18 relates God’s instructions to David to build an altar of worship on the THRESHINGFLOOR of Araunah the Jebusite.
When we proclaim the glory of God’s creation, we stand on Araunah’s THRESHINGFLOOR. When that kite reaches into the heavens, although our feet remain on the THRESHINGFLOOR, our kite connects us with the great Creator of all good things.
E – He is more EXCELLENT than all his creation.
Psalm 76:4 proclaims how great is our God, for he is more EXCELLENT than the mountains rich with game.
When our kite string slips through our fingers, allowing the wind to lift that fragile assemblage of plastic and sticks toward God, our attention is drawn to the EXCELLENCE of our Father’s creation, and in that defining moment, it points to the one who is greater than every other thing in existence.
When we point to God, the image of his majesty fills us with everlasting joy.
