Our REFRESHING God

When we step into a spring morning, it is unlike any other season of the year. The air is crisp, and yet we are filled with anticipation, knowing the warmth of the afternoon is on its way. The aroma of freshly tilled flowerbeds speaks life to us, and the scent of flowers hovers in the air, teasing us with the temptation of beauty beyond belief.

We feel renewed. Our houses have been sealed against the chill of the night, but stepping into the morning brings REFRESHING that speaks life to us.

That’s our God, the REFRESHING of new life given when we step away from the old. Man barricades himself against the cold of the world, but God’s presence brings a newness that is REFRESHING and alive.

Let’s look at our REFRESHING God:

R – He is the king who REIGNS over all creation.

Psalm 97:1 shouts a song of praise unto God, for he REIGNS; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad!

E – He ESTABLISHES his kingdom in us for all time.

1 Chronicles 17:14 assures us that God cares for his children, for he ESTABLISHES us in his house forever.

F – He is our time of FEASTING.

Esther 9:22 lifts us up into rejoicing, for we are given a day of FEASTING to commemorate the blessings of the Lord.

R – He REVEALS the might of his power unto his creation.

Jeremiah 33:6 proclaims a God who carries out his promises, for in this verse, his spoken word offers not only healing, but he promises to REVEAL both peace and truth unto those whom he protects.

E – He is the EAST WIND that opens the way for us.

Exodus 14:21 tells of the Israelites trapped between the Pharaoh and the Red Sea. However, God was in the EAST WIND that made the sea into dry land.

S – His truth is the SEED of understanding.

Matthew 13:24-30 explains the parable of the tares, and we learn that all good SEED comes from the Father and the Son.

H – He numbers the HAIRS of our heads.

Luke 12:7 renews our confidence in our God, for there is no detail of our lives too small for him to notice, even to the HAIRS on our heads. We are more valuable to him than any other creature on this earth.

I – He promises to INCREASE our wealth until there is no end.

1 Chronicles 27:23 exemplifies God’s eternal promise, for the Lord said he would INCREASE Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

N – He is the NEWNESS of a bright spring day.

Romans 6:4 bursts with the truth of God, that although our old man is buried in death, through the Father, we will walk in the NEWNESS of life in Christ.

G – He GIRDETH us with power, that we might be strong in him.

Psalm 18:32 speaks of God’s great power, for when we step into him, he GIRDETH us with his strength, that our way may be made perfect.

Just as we are refreshed by the newness of a spring day, so God brings that same refreshing to our spirits. He desires us to know of his bounty and of his desire to be our everlasting giver of all good things.

There is no good thing that God does not wish to do for us.

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
