Our HOODIE God

The coldest 30 days of winter tend to cross over from the end of January into the first of February. February 1st falls right in the middle, making it statistically the most frigid day in the entire year.

Burrr! It’s time to dress warmly, from leggings for our ankles, and caps for our ears, to gloves to warm our hands.

Something that helps more than anything else is having a HOODIE next to our skin. It holds our body heat in, and keeps the air from seeping around our face.

God is like that. When we keep him close, he holds our spiritual heat in, and he keeps the sin of the world from getting to us.

Let’s look at our HOODIE God:

H – He is our HELPER when the winter winds blow.

Hebrews 13:6 reassures us we do not need to be afraid, for the Lord is our HELPER. There is none that can harm us.

O – He is our OATH that keeps us from harm.

Ecclesiastes 8:2-5 stresses that when we have an oath with the King, his paths are ones of safety, no matter the winter winds that blow.

O – He is the OUTSTRETCHED arm that showers warmth on the earth.

Jeremiah 27:5 describes the creation of all things, for it is with God’s OUTSTRETCHED arm that the earth and all its people were made. He gives the things he’s created to anyone he pleases.

D – He brought life forth from the DUST of the earth.

Genesis 2:7 tells us the true power of God, for with the touch of his hand, he caused the DUST of the earth to become man.

I – He is the patron of ISRAEL, and he treats her as his beloved, showering love on his people.

Isaiah 44:6 names God as the king of ISRAEL. There is no other to which to turn for safety in the time of the storm, for as king, God has all authority and power.

E – He EXECUTES his will to do whatever he wishes.

Psalm 103:6 lets us know that in times of despair, we can fall into the Father’s hands, for he EXECUTES his righteousness in all the land, giving justice to the oppressed.

When we bundle up in the Lord, we are safe against the rising storm.
