Brand-spanking new.
Isn’t that something we all see as positive?
The old cooking range with its wood-fired oven or a newly built electronic one?
A 1935 Cadillac touring car or the shine on a new Escalade SUV with all the modern safety features?
A 1960s Mid-Century residence or the updated wiring, paint, and foundation of a new-build?
Grandma’s old sewing machine might be a novelty to use, but the new ones do so much!
And who would use an iPhone from 2007 when the latest version seamlessly hooks up to our car and plays our latest tunes?
As Christians, we are the same. The old us? Fun (perhaps even useful) in the day but no longer what God desires of us.
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
The party person who indulged every whim … dead.
The angry person who had to be appeased … lifeless at the foot of the cross.
The one careless with other people’s feelings … banished to the history books.
The carnal nature that sloughed off biblical truths … a shadow that disappears in the light of Christ’s love.
Christ changes who we are. Salvation is our new starting point. We resolve to model our actions after the example of Jesus in the Bible, and people begin to notice.
We are remade, fresh and brand-spanking new through our relationship with Our Lord.
Let’s let Christ be our example and live out the new life he offers unto us.
