Catch a flight with a layover. What’s your connection? Can you make it? Did you leave yourself enough time to get from one gate to another?
The destination is important, but if you miss your connection, you’re out of luck. You’ll be stranded and unable to get where you want to go.
Your intention, your course of action, none of it matters anymore. You are going to be delayed.
The same is true in our journey through life.
Here’s the thing: this is only the first leg of our journey. Each of us has a connection we must make before we can continue to our final destination.
Isaiah 7:14 tells us:
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Connections. It’s all about the connections. Paying attention to the instructions, noting the cautions, and keeping track of the arrows pointing us the right direction.
Can we make our connection? This one is pretty clear. A virgin conceives … a son is born … and we are to follow him.
That’s the Christmas message. The trees, the lights, the gifts … they are all part of making our celebration joyful, but the true message is the savior born to bring us the truth that he is our connection along the final leg of our journey through life.
Let’s connect with Jesus this Christmas. He’s the only connection that matters.
