The Honor You Deserve

An Internet blogger told this story about money:

A young man, 23, decided he didn’t want to work.

“Not for me! I prefer to play video games.”

He decided he could sidestep the employment line and live off what society would give him for free. Meaning, his parents mostly.

Yet, the cost of his decision soon became apparent. No car. No money. And no place to live.

Did he deserve to be homeless? His parents had money. Our society offers housing that’s virtually free to those without income.

The blogger suggested that the man had earned his homeless status. It was the price of his choices.

Proverbs 26:1 tells us:

“As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.”

Essentially, we get what’s coming to us. What we deserve.  What we’ve worked for and earned.

Why would an employer pay you for not showing up at work?

… a landlord allow you to stay without keeping up with the rent?

… a farmer give up food when he’s paid to grow and harvest it from the soil?

… God say, “Welcome home,” when we choose to ignore him in this life?

We pay a price for the choices we make. In relationships. In our field of employment. In saving for retirement. In where we place our faith for eternity.

Choose God. Take time for salvation now. Get the honor you deserve.
