In Chicken Soup for the Soul, Jennifer Barney recalls a year their family was short on Christmas gifts.
On Christmas day, her mother handed Jennifer a gift that Jennifer knew was for her mother. She had spent days looking at every wrapped package, and she knew this one was her mother’s.
Her mother insisted, eagerly and joyfully, that Jennifer open it.
Jennifer says she has never forgotten her mother’s selflessness in giving up one of her few gifts so that her daughter could have one more present.
Now imagine God. Jesus, part of Him, and at the same time, his Son, his most treasured possession. On the first Christmas Day, God looked at humanity with love in his eyes and he said, “I know He is mine. I want to give Him to you, anyway. Here, with all my love.”
2 Corinthians 9:15 is our exclamation of joy:
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”
When we accept God’s gift, he finds his pleasure in us. Let’s invite Jesus in today.
