The Sold-Out Christmas Gift

It’s always a disappointment to want something special for Christmas, only to find it’s no longer stocked on the shelves.

A favorite doll at a tender age.

That red wagon from when we were eight.

Maybe it’s a video console or game for a teen, or even (for adults) that new car we’ve been wishing for.

Whatever it is, we think, “If only I’d started shopping sooner …”

Roberta Sampere from Dolgeville, NY, tells the story of her husband, suffering with age, and with a tenuous short-term memory, who jumpstarted her belief in Christmas miracles.

A Christmas catalogue arrived at her house offering a beautiful tablecloth that was perfect, but when she checked, it was out of stock. Sold out. A disappointment, but Roberta accepted her loss and moved on.

Then, on Christmas Day, she found a special present under the tree. Her husband, no longer able to use a phone or credit card or even read had somehow located that exact tablecloth and lovingly placed it under the tree for his wife.

Our Christmas miracle is found in Luke 2:12:

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”

There is no more special gift. Jesus showed up to a world that didn’t expect him or know how much they needed him.

He is never “sold out.” He can always be found. He wants to renew your faith in Christmas miracles all over again.

Excerpt of the Day

When we claim victory in the name of Christ, he will change the world around us from black into the purest white.
