Salvation.
What image does it bring to mind?
A weeping, broken man? A woman bereft of options?
Or perhaps the Savior, bleeding on a cross with Mary at his feet, suffering in anguish at her child hanging on that wooden tree.
It’s easy to picture salvation as something that applies to someone else. The “bad” person wandering the streets; the “sinner” who finds their way into our revival service and answers the altar call; or even our sibling who has taken a wrong turn in life and needs back on track.
It's time to look in a mirror. Christ’s salvation is for us, also.
Me and you; the person who never admits to mistakes; the preacher who must set a higher example; and the exalted apostle who leads the body of Christ.
Ephesians 1:7 gives us 3 Levels of Christ’s Forgiveness.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.”
It’s easy to read this verse as a quick nugget of God’s love toward mankind. Let’s look closer.
Our 1st Level of Christ’s Forgiveness:
We have redemption through his blood.
The Bible tells us there is no redemption without the blood of Christ. Our Lord offered his lifeblood that we might be forgiven.
Our 2nd Level of Christ’s Forgiveness:
We are forgiven of every trespass.
A trespass is stepping outside the law. When we break God’s rules, intentionally or unintentionally, we find ourselves outside his divine grace. Jesus opens a door back into God’s favor.
Our 3rd Level of Christ’s Forgiveness:
Christ’s forgiveness flows from the riches of God’s grace.
Here’s the core of the cross. God wants to offer redemption. He yearns for all to be forgiven. When we take the first small step towards him, he takes a giant leap towards us.
Now picture salvation. That broken man . . . yes. The woman without options . . . again, yes. Me, you, the preacher, and the apostle. All of us.
Salvation is for everyone.
Come to Christ. He desires to hold you in his arms today.
